Artisans for Haiti

February 3rd, 2010

4 congos have come together to create a benefit stocking on the Artiste store front! Vendors from UM, Fresh, Universal Mama, the old Artiste and Revolution are all coming together to provide their wares with proceeds going towards the Red Cross for Haitian relief!

I have 3 listings up until my old Artiste store front, each specific listing explains exactly how much will be donated to Haiti.

I have also done a newborn collaboration with Scuttlebutts consisting of a newborn diaper and yarn! 100% of these proceeds will go to Haiti!

There are some Buy Now listings but most are 4 day auctions!

Please come help out this wonderful fundraiser! :-) Tonight at 9pm at Artiste

Thanks! :-)

“Benjamin” for my Benjamin! ♥

January 22nd, 2010

It’s been almost 3 years since I’ve created the colourway “Benjamin”.  I did it for our Grand Opening at Artiste and it was an instant hit.  I was in a phase of “if I ever had another baby these would be the names”.  That stocking consisted of Olivia and Benjamin, as well as Alice after my dear grandma who had past away 2 weeks before the stocking and a few others!  At the time we weren’t even thinking about another baby since Sarah was only just over a year old and I had just made my 6 month anniversary of my new business!  (Gosh how time flies!!)  So these were just names I really liked!

Fast forward 2 years and here we are pregnant and expecting our third child and second son, the name debate was on and while I had kept Benjamin in the back of my head, I was nervous about bringing it up to my husband Richard because every. single. name. I liked or suggested got the big ole “Nope! Don’t like it!”.  So a month went by and I really felt like we were never going to give this baby a name…he would be forever known as “Hey You” or “Boy”…not good!  Then one night as I was drifting off to sleep I said “Benjamin”  to which Richard replied “What?? For the baby?”  I was like yeah!  He asked if he could sleep on it so I said sure since it was better than the typical response!

The next morning I get a phone call, Richard telling me that he picked a name?  I was a little confused and it turns out he liked Benjamin!! ♥ We finally had a name for our baby boy!! It was about time!! :)

And once the reality of actually having a name kicked in, I realized I had a Benjamin colourway already to go!  I didn’t even have to create one for him. (In case you aren’t aware, each of my children have colourways named after them! :) )  So the other night I was dyeing up some “Benjamin” and dyed two special skeins that I had been saving for something!  They were gifted to me by a wonderful customer of mine.  She sent me 2 skeins of Plumknit Cashmerino.  I’ve been saving them forever, and finally decided that Benjamin needed a little pair of longies in his name and why not use this special yarn!

So, here it is, Benjamin on Cashmerino!  I can’t wait to start knitting it! ♥

Happy 2010!

January 3rd, 2010

It’s once again been awhile since I’ve updated the blog!  One of my business resolutions for 2010 is to write on it a little more frequently! So today is a new day and I am writing something! :)

I hope that you all had a safe and happy holidays!  We had a wonderful holiday! I have to admit it was very very nice not to have to focus on the business and just spend some quality time with my children, husband and family!  Each year we do Christmas Day at our house and we all enjoy the fact that we can just stay home and enjoy the day together!  The kids were very excited with their gifts and we had a quiet day which involved a little skating for Ryan and Sarah (who got her new skates and helmet from Santa! ;) ) until of course it started raining??  Then on Boxing Day we head up to the cottage for our family Christmas with my family…its crazy but fun and I always enjoy spending time with my brother’s and sister and their spouses and of course my adorable nieces and nephew and my kids really love to get to see their cousins!! In total there are 10 adults and 6 kids ranging from ages 6 years to 8 months!  Lots of fun! :)

So, now we are back home and its back to work and school for everyone tomorrow!  The Laines Magnifiques webstore will be up and running tomorrow with some limited colourways and yarn bases available for semi-customs as well as some in stock 10% off sale items!   On Friday I will be stocking 4 preorder colourways; Retro Metro, Olivia, Benjamin, and a new colourway Bohemian; on my Hyena Cart!  Be sure to check them out!! Dyeing to take place the week of January 18th!

Yarn Subscriptions for January to March are still available on my Hyena Cart as well, last day to order for this is January 15th.  Our next 3 month segment for yarn subs won’t be for sale until mid-May for June through August so if you don’t want to wait be sure to get a spot!  (We’ll be on babymoon from mid-April until the end of May since our little baby boy will be arriving somewhere around the 24th of April!)

Also, don’t miss out on Monday nights at Universal Mama where I will be stocking at least 2-3 times a month!  Unfortuantely due to being away I won’t be stocking tomorrow night, but I do plan on having something up for the 11th’s stocking!  More details to come on that!! :)

Well, I think that’s all for now! I hope some of you are not cold like I am here in South Western Ontario! lol  It’s -20 C and with the windchill it’s probably colder!  But spring is only 3 months away! (I hope! brrrr)

A little update

November 4th, 2009

It seems like forever since I’ve posted anything here.  Things have been busy in our house…October is a busy month with 4 birthdays plus Thanksgiving (yup that’s right I’m a Canuck ;) ).  We finally celebrated the last one on Sunday for my daughter Sarah who turned 3 years old on the 30th!  I’m actually breathing a sigh of relief that October is gone…only to look out the window and stare into the dull dreariness of November…it’s dark here now by 4:30pm and the kids are going a little stir crazy being inside due to the nippy damp days!  Soon December will be here and the Christmas season will be upon us…but let’s not rush things!

I’ll start with a little personal update….I’m excited to announce that we are expecting a new member of our family to arrive in late April!  This pregnancy is going well, we are entering into 4.5 months and while I’m exhausted I’m still finding enough energy to keep up with my dye schedule.

Now onto all things Laines Magnifiques!   I’ll be stocking twice this week!  On Thursday the 5th at 9pm be sure to check out 3 new colourways stocking at Artiste.  I’m doing my best to have previews up by tomorrow…yarn takes a little longer to dry now that I have to keep it indoors…nothing worse than frozen wet yarn! (Yes its THAT cold here already!! :) ) It’s our Season of Giving Stocking and I’ve created colourways based on the Christmas season as well as children’s gifts that my kids have received over the years!  They are fun bright colourways and I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I enjoyed creating them!

On Friday the 6th at noon I will be stocking on my Hyena Cart.  There will be 4 preorder colourways as well as 3 “Socks Magnifiquesâ„¢” Yarn Club subscriptions AND a 10% off sale on all instock yarn stocked that day!  PLUS don’t forget the free shipping to Canada and the USA on orders over $85.00!

Preorder colourways include: Fairy Dust, Grandma’s Cottage, Eurobirds and Sunny Days!

Be sure to check out all the great stuff stocking! :)

Getting ready for the Knitter's Fair!

August 18th, 2009

Summer is almost over and that means its almost time for the K-W Knitter’s Fair!  I’ve been going to this event for the last few years (well ever since we moved closer to it), and this year I decided it was time for Laines Magnifiques to become a vendor!  I decided late but was able to obtain a booth and am thrilled that I will be vending there!  It’s my first show, so I’m really unsure of how much yarn is enough so I have begun some crazy dyeing in order to get everything dyed up well in advance!  I’m working on a 4-5 skeins per colourway and ones that have been more popular in the past I am doing 10 skeins in 2 or 3 yarn bases!

Anyway, it should be lots of fun, I’m excited and nervous, but looking at it as a learning experience and a chance to meet a lot of great people! :)

Going to the MI Fiber Fest

August 14th, 2009

I’m just packing up my bags right now and getting ready to head out to Michigan with my dear friend Julie to visit our other dear friend Sam!  It’s about a 5 hour drive from Guelph so its not too bad and even better that I’ll have someone to chat with on the way!

We’re heading to the MI Fiber Fest tomorrow!  I’ll just be there as little ole me, to wander through the vendors, pet the yarn and fiber and probably buy more than I’ll ever knit or dye but that’s okay! :)

Laines Magnifiques will be open while I am gone, so feel free to shop, just please note that all instock orders won’t be shipping out until Monday! :)

Have a great weekend everyone and I’ll be sure to update the blog with pics!!

Ahh time to knit..

August 8th, 2009

I have a few rare moments to knit so its back to those UFOs! You know, the ones that sit in the bottom of a bin in the back of a closet, and every now and then call out “Please won’t you come finish me!!”.  Well I’ve actually decided to jump back into one.  Back in April I gave my mom a “complete custom knit” item for her birthday.  She could pick the item, the yarn, and the colourway and I would create from scratch her perfect custom knit.  In all honesty I thought for sure she would choose something simple, a winter hat, some new mitts since her old ones have holes in them. Or maybe a nice shawl or something like that…and while she didn’t choose a full on sweater, she did choose this vest.  We searched Ravelry and knitty and every other knitting website for a button down vest that she could wear on the golf course.  Something that wasn’t too cumbersome, but that was heavy enough to keep her warm on those cool mornings of golfing with my dad.

So my first dilemma was that she choose a variegated yarn, and a pattern that has lace work in it.  While both are beautiful (can one say that about their own colourways?  I think so…), each does not coordinate well with the other.  The variegated pattern would not show the beautiful lace work.  I decided to give it a whirl and see how it looked despite the dark colourway.  She chose my “Personified” colourway because she felt it would match a lot of her wardrobe.  Not the best for lacework.  So, in an effort to give my mom a birthday present this year (did I mention this all started in April ;) )  I’ve decided to drop the lace in the patter and just do a simple stockinette stitch with the garter stitch accents.  Hopefully it ends up looking okay, I will keep you posted…
